On September 6, 2003, the school board of the West High School in Salt Lake City voted to pass a measure that would eliminate homework. The board stated that they felt that homework was not beneficial to students and that it was more beneficial to have teachers spend their time helping students instead of doing paper work. On May 25, 2013, the school board voted to reinstate homework. The board stated that they reintroduced homework because of its benefits towards students' academics and that students who did not have any grades would be allowed to stay in school until graduation without working on their grades.
